Arts Monday 18 November 2013
Join me, Jane Raffan, for a Corroboree! I’ll be looking at Sydney’s newest festival devoted to Indigenous art and culture called ‘Corroboree Sydney‘. Corroboree is an Eora word meaning place of ceremony and creative expression and a transformative gathering and Mondays’ show will be a gathering of people and music celebrating Australia’s first peoples and their culture.
I’ll be chatting with Amanda Peacock, Coordinator of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, about this coming week’s program of gallery events lined up for the festival.
And listen out for special in-studio guests, mother and daughter duo Aunty Rhonda Dixon Grovenor and Nadeena Dixon, who will be previewing their upcoming Carriageworks event as part of another festival in honour of the 30th anniversary of Performance Space called ‘You’re History!’, and offering up a live performance.
And I’ll also be letting you know about the City of Sydney’s Eora Journey highlights, and Bare Hands, a series of Aboriginal workshops and tours being held on Bare Island at La Perouse on 1 December, organised by First Hand Solutions Aboriginal Corporation, which runs a back-to-the-bush program for Aboriginal youth at risk.
And the music? We’ll be showcasing contemporary Indigenous music by the Tiddas, Microwave Jenny, the Stiff Gins, the Sapphires and more, and of course live performance from Aunty Rhonda Dixon and Nadeena Dixon.
