Arts Monday 22 October 2012

ArtiFacts Eastside.

Join me, Jane Raffan, for a program that takes an in-depth look at the exhibition Eugène Atget: Old Paris currently on show at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

I’ll be chatting with Judy Annear, Senior Curator of Photography about the man, the city, the works and their respective mystique.  Atget inspired the Surrealists and American documentary photographers, in particular.  And others in far flung realms of inquiry: we’ll ponder why a crater on Mercury was named after him.

The exhibition features around 200 photographs developed into themes: Small trades, shops and displays; Streets of Paris; Vehicles; Gardens; Interiors; The Seine; and The Fortifications ‘Zone’.  It also features a collection of works once owned by Man Ray – an interesting perspective on the Surrealists view of the artist.

More on the exhibition and the gallery here: https://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/exhibitions/eugene-atget/

And the music? We’ll be listening to music in keeping with the tenor of Atget’s images: moody pieces by artists with French associations.

As always, I look forward to your company, 10:30 to noon.

Jane
