Arts Thursday 26 April – Speaking HeadOn with Moshe Rosenzveig
Presented by Bronwyn Rennex
On Arts Thursday this week I speak to Moshe Rosenzveig about the upcoming festival of all things photography, Head On. Moshe is Director of the festival, which began as a portrait competition in 2004 and this year will feature over 100 venues and 800 artists. The festival runs from 5-28 May in venues around Sydney and beyond.
I also talk about an exhibition of work entitled Karrang Kunred/Mother-Land by three senior Kuninjku women of the Kurulk clan from Arnhem Land . The three women, Susan Marawarr, Jennifer Wurrkidj and Deborah Wurrkidj present traditional art forms such as lorrkon (hollow logs) and bark paintings alongside experimental textile prints. I will be speaking to the women in my next show but in the meantime, if you would like to see their work it is at Cross Arts Projects in Kings Cross.
I chose music featuring some fierce women this week, including Tina Havelock Stevens who is curator of this month’s Art Bar at the MCA in Sydney. I play music from a couple of bands that Tina has been involved with, The Mumps and The Plug Uglies.
I also feature music from a couple of young Australian all-female bands from different sides of the continent, Ripple Effect Band from Arnhem Land and Parsnip from Melbourne.
