This Arts Thursday on 8 February with Maisy Stapleton introduces  an artist and a philanthropist.

WHAT’S ON TODAY’S PROGRAM:

Every year, Stanley Street Gallery in Darlinghurst presents an exhibition – Introducing – focussing on new, early career artists – “artists to keep an eye on”.

This year three artists are represented – mixed media artist Jackson Farley, object maker Yixuan Geng and ceramicist Shaun Hayes – providing different insights into contemporary practice.

An interview with Jackson Farley introduces this week’s Arts Thursday. Jackson works in several mediums, including painting and video, both represented in the current Stanley Street Show. His work probes idealisations of masculinity through art and the concept of ‘genius art’.

In the second segment of the program we meet with a philanthropist and supporter of the arts.

In the recent Australia Day Honours List, Anna Buduls was recognised with an Order of Australia (AO) for her support of homeless and disadvantaged people.

Anna is also the Chair of Beyond Empathy, an organisation founded by Kim McConville, Phillip Crawford and Anna, with a charter to influence change through art – “to enrich the lives of individuals and communities experiencing recurring hardship”.

This remarkable organisation, works in areas where “multiple disadvantage is found: social and economic, individual and community”. Through interactions with the visual arts, performing arts or broad cultural arena, Beyond Empathy supports regenerative programs that help to bring meaning and motivation to communities and to individual lives.

Anna Buduls talks about Beyond Empathy and the reasons for her support of its life-changing work.

Anna’s is a rare example of ‘behind the scenes’ arts leadership through her philanthropy and support to those in needand involvement in the arts.
