Arts Wednesday 1 July 2020 – The Creative Legacy Program

Presented by Bronwyn Rennex

On Arts Wednesday this week I speak to artist Harriet Body and Artist/Coordinator Grace Faint-Ludeman regarding the Groundswell Project’s Creative Legacy Program at Liverpool Hospital.

One of the works Harriet has created as part of the Creative Legacy Program

The Groundswell Project builds “communities that respond compassionately around end of life. For our communities to take action, we must socialise the conversation about death, dying and bereavement by providing opportunities for the community to re-develop a shared language for talking and planning for end of life using local resources and information. This helps to build people’s death literacy and connects people to one another, where they live and online.”

The Creative Legacy Program is an award winning arts and health experience that combines storytelling and art making on an acute Palliative Care ward. Through conversation and story-telling exercises the artist captures the life stories of people in the last days and weeks of their life in personalised artworks, which are then given to the patient and their family as a gift of art and legacy.

It’s such a fabulous initiative and has some great artists like Harriet and Krisha involved. In fact, I play some music by Krisha’s band The Elevator District

We mention during the interview that if you would like to support the program and give your liver a break, you can sign up to their Dry July Team.

Thanks for listening.
