Arts Wednesday 21 July 2021

In the first half hour, Dr Anna Kamaralli joins us with Part 6 of Staging the Look: how does stage and film design for history. In this episode, Anna turns her attention to accessories: gloves, fans, scarves, jewellery etc and how they help define character – think Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly with her long gloves and cigarette holder!

Lockdown means no more guests live in the studio, so this week I am playing a repeat from August last year: the Saxophone with Nick Russionello. Nick is a rare specimen: he is a classical saxophonist! Learn about the history of the instrument, its role in music history and how it became the darling of jazz.

Music starts with some accessories and then saxophone.

Do keep me company!
