Arts Wednesday 24 May 2017

Today at 10:40 am, we start a new series on percussion, with Mark Robinson, Assistant Timpani and Percussionist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In Episode 1, we talk about percussion, its history and its instruments.

At 11:00 am, my special guest is David Bock from the Australian Museum, talking about Australian native bees. Apparently, there are about 1500 species and still counting. In many ways, they are different from the European honey bee which is more familiar to us.

At 11:30 am, another special guest is George Wing Kee, business man and personality in Sydney’s Chinatown. The spotlight is on George for National Heritage Month, when he conducts walking tours of Chinatown. Our conversation takes us through Chinese Australian history, customs and more.

Music reflects all 3 guests: we’ll hear percussion, music about bees and honey and music by Chinese artists.

As always, I look forward to your company.
