ARTS WEDNESDAY 27 JANUARY 2010

I have returned from holidays and really look forward to returning to the program live to air. I hope you all enjoyed the prerecorded shows featuring “best of” interviews from 2009 and as always, many thanks to those who called the station. All of us love feedback from our listeners!

Bliss Jensen will join me at about 9:45 am for Now Showing and Anna Groden will present the last of the current series of Investing in Art at about 10:10 am.

My special guest this week in the 10:30 am slot is John Huie, director of the Chinese Gardens Music Festival taking place next week in Sydney.   Australia-born composer and festival director, John  recently returned to Australia after 15 years in China, where one of his accolades was a commission by the Chinese Government to compose music for the handover of Hong Kong from the British.  John has written and produced numerous film scores as well as being commissioned by the Australian Film Commission, the ABC, the Australia council and the Sydney Choral Society.  His aim is to bring Australian & Chinese cultures together through music. John has composed and performed for a range of musical groups, including chamber ensemble ‘The Posh’, which was toured extensively by Musica Viva.  I do look forward to meeting him and to our conversation.

John has sent me a couple of CDs and I will feature his music and other music from China during the show.

As always, I do look forward to your company.
