ARTS WEDNESDAY 4 JULY 2012

I have just returned from Ruth Wajnryb’s funeral. Ruth was Eastside’s Word Lady and presenter over many years of The Word on Wednesday with Dr Ruth. Her sad passing afforded me the opportunity to play so many of our old series and I have selected one to play tomorrow as a

Dr Ruth Wajnryb

. This will go to air at 11:00 am

Today we start a new series of four episodes at about 10:40 am. Glynis Jones, Curator of Fashion and Dress at the Powerhouse will guide us through the vagaries of Australian Fashion from earliest colonial times up to today. What exactly is Australian fashion and did it really exist when Sydney was a convict settlement? All will be revealed!

My special guest is Mujak Tulba, author of a very disturbing novel Beneath the Darkening Sky, about child soldiers during civil war in Sudan. Mujak is a successful author and film maker here in Sydney since he arrived at the age of 16 as a refugee from Sudan. I am sure we will all find the conversation fascinating! That interview will go to air at about 11:10 am, after The Word on Wednesday.

Since it is 4th July, music will all come from USA!

As always I look forward to your company!
