Arts Wednesday 6 February 2013
Laila Ellmoos joins us at about 10:40 am for Part 4 of our tour of the Paddington/Darlinghurst area and this week she takes us to Victoria Barracks, our immediate neighbour on the western side.
At about 11:00 am I will play an interview I recorded with Roanne Gonsalves and Hsu-Ming Teo, both contributers to Joyful Strains, a book published to coincide with Australia Day 2013. It is a collection of short pieces by writers from some 28 countries about their experiences of becoming Australian. Roanne originally hails from the Catholic community of Mumbai while Hsu-Ming was from the ethnic Chinese community in
Malaysia. Their stories are very different but all part of the fabric that makes us Australian.
I can’t promise to get through 28 songs, but I’ll select music from as many of the 28 countries of origin of the book’s authors as I can.
I look forward to your compNY!
