ARTS WEDNESDAY 9 DECEMBER 2009

Bliss Jensen will present Now Showing at about 9:45 am and at about 10:10 am I will be pleased to welcome back to Arts Wednesday Anna Groden and Investing in Art. Anna suggested and I agreed that the first episode of each series should be a review of the art market and that’s the topic of conversation this week.

My special guest this week is Mary-Ruth Mendel, who founded the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation. Recent weeks have seen local press reporting the dismal literacy figures for indigenous Australians and Mary-Ruth is an eloquent voice in the debate.

I decided to play some of Sean O’Boyle’s work for orchestra and didjeridoo to accompany my conversation with Mary-Ruth and that suggested crossover – a genre I love but haven’t played for ages. I will play some old favourites and new ones, all featuring classical artists who take on the jazz genre and vice-versa.

As usual, I look forward to your company.
