ARTS WEDNESDAY 9 JANUARY 2013

I’m really looking forward to returning to the console for my first live show for 2013!

In the first half-hour, we will hear the 5th and final episode of the series on musical instruments in the Powerhouse collection with curator Michael Lea and this week Michael talks about guitars. Michael is a guitarist himself and we recorded this episode in the storeroom of the museum and Michael himself plays the various guitars he describes.

At 11:00 am I’ll play you an interview I recorded with Florentijn Hofman, the Dutch artist ho created Rubber Ducky, who sits in Cockle Bay and will remain there for all of the Sydney Festival. Florentijn was in Sydney last week to supervise the installation and was able to pop into the studio and record our conversation.

Rubber Ducky sailed into Cockle Bay in a grand performance entitled Arrival, created by Patrick Nolan, who is my next guest on Arts Wednesday. With his other hat on, Patrick is Artistic Director of Legs on the Wall, whose performance for this year’s Sydney Festival is entitled Symphony and we discussed both of these wonderful artistic endeavours.

Acknowledging Rubber Ducky, music this week will be about our feathered friends.

I hope you can keep me company.
