Arts Thursday 6 October.
This Thursday, join Maisy Stapleton to commence a special series, Asian Intersections, examining how we intersect with Asia through culture and art.
The program will also include the final interviews in the series e 2016 Woollahra artists in residence.
Asian Intersections
In the first of a two-program interview, Jackie Menzies OAM, Emeritus Curator of Asian Art at the Art Gallery of NSW and President of The Asian Art Society of Australia joins us to set the background to the series Asian Intersections and to speak about the key role that exhibitions at the Art Gallery of NSW have played in introducing Asian culture to Sydneysiders and the importance of Asian collections and cultural events in nurturing understanding between Asia and Australia.

2016 Woollahra Council artists in residence
This year, this council cultural program provided seven artists with their own studio space as well as opportunities to engage with the community in a specially developed project. Over the last two programs I have spoken to 4 of these artists.
In the final interviews, I speak to three young women who are using the studios at the EJ Ward community Centre in Paddington, but involved in very diverse forms of practice.
Leyla Stevens is currently undertaking her Ph D and is working on a project involving community memories. She has been exhibiting within Australia and internationally since 2005.

In a joint interview, Stella Rosa McDonald and Rafaela Pandolfini, who are sharing a studio, speak about their individual work as well as their roles as young mothers and how they are juggling arts practice with raising a family.
Stella McDonald is a writer as well as a video artist based in Sydney. Her practice currently examines the various influences of language, text and image on the portrayal of historical matter. Stella has been facilitating the community project Reading Writing – a monthly reading group that examines the history of the written word in art.
Rafaela Pandolfini is an interdisciplinary artist working predominantly in photography, video and more recently dance and ceramics.
Rafaela’s community program explores art and the smartphone and you can find out more about these workshops: https://www.woollahra.nsw.gov.au/events/events_list/art_and_the_smartphone_with_2016_woollahra_artist_in_resident_rafaela_pandolfini?SQ_CALENDAR_VIEW=day&SQ_CALENDAR_DATE=2016-10-04
