AUSTRALIANS by Jon Frank showing at Juniper Hall
We Australians are an unusual but awesome folk, so to celebrate all that is great about being an Aussie, photographer Jon Frank has decided to capture some Australians in their natural habitats and show them in a new exhibition that is heading for Juniper Hall this Saturday.
The exhibition, aptly called Australians is a street photography style shows “Australians in Australia”. It shows us in the good times and bad, letting the world see how we live Down Under.
Jon Frank is a photographer from Victoria whose passion for art and surfing go hand in hand. How Aussie is that! His love of art stemmed from his lifestyle, and after studying the technical aspects of photography after he left school, he made a name for himself in the photography world with his surfing photos.
Frank has been well received as an artist. Richard Tognetti, the artistic director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra had this to say about Jon. “I want to be taken into the mysterious undertow of psychological narrative and Jon’s work does that.”
His latest exhibition has moved away from the beach and more towards the people. It is being described as a show to “take you on a trip through a modern day Australia far removed from the colour brochure.”
Frank is stripping away the cookie cutter image of an Australian and replacing it with an honest look at society and how we work.
Frank said, “This is not merely a record of the physical landscape but of an emotional one; stories of humanity and frailty amidst the relentless thrust forward into a more frenetic, wealthier future”.
