Bike Selfies Show off Sydney’s Secrets

Saddle up for the CBD “Checkpoint Challenge” by bike!

On Sunday 12 October players are invited to ride around to series of checkpoints in Sydney, taking pictures of our amazing Sydney icons and posting to their social media, in order to “check in” for points. The challenge is to see how many you can collect, and to re-discover Sydney by bike.  Riders will have to find a mix of well-knowns and some more hidden city gems.  It’s on a Sunday to stay well out of the cars’ way.

Businesses that live and breathe the inner city are right behind this event, including Sydney Brewer, making craft beer a stone’s throw from Central Station, Liv/Giant womens’ cycling store, Omafiets bike shop in Marrickville, Aslan Coffee in St Peters, and Eastside Radio itself – all of who have donated prizes. Players will start and finish at The Commons Local Eating House in Darlinghurst with refreshments and prize presentation afterwards. The event will be social and creative as much as competitive. Prizes will be for creativity and city smarts as much as for fast riding. Lycra is definitely NOT required.

Checkpoint Challenge is being run by Amber Colhoun and Bec Short, who created Bike Dating in 2013. Bec said “Lots of people were charmed by the idea of bike dating – although we had some feedback from married and coupled bike-riders that they were disappointed they couldn’t come! Checkpoint challenge is about exploring the city, enjoying yourself and having fun.”

This year the event is open to all – but you do have to register in teams of two.

The event is part of the Sydney Rides Festival. Amber says “We love the Sydney Rides Festival because it brings together the entire community to support bike riding in the city, with programs, workshops and events. Riding is just a normal, scenic way to get around.”

·        A Deluxe bike service from The Rolling Fix mobile bike mechanics
