Boomerang Festival to go Biennial

Last year the Boomerang Festival carved out a place within Bluesfest where Indigenous performance would have space to shine. After the success of the festival-within-a-festival approach, Boomerang was intended to continue this year, but practicalities have caused the organisers to decide that holding the event over until 2015 will give them the chance to present an even better showcase for the talents of their artists.

From the media release: “With recent funding cuts to the arts sector along with a number of Aboriginal organisations feeling the brunt of the latest Federal Budget, we have had to rethink our future and have decided to make Boomerang a biennial event. We will therefore be directing our planning for this year’s event that was to be held on 4th-6th October 2014 into next year. Boomerang Festival organisers are as ever committed to making sure that the momentum of pride and interest continues and are currently seeking partners and supporters for its return on the 3rd- 5th October 2015.”

The organisers are approaching the change with great hope for the event’s future, and are actively seeking sponsorship and potential commercial partnerships to help next year’s festival flourish. “Boomerang Festival has inspired a new direction in celebrating and sharing Indigenous culture and we look forward to presenting the 2015 festival at the home of Bluesfest, the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm North of Byron Bay.”
