Brent Thorpe is Daddy

Brent Thorpe is Daddy

From sold out shows in Barcelona and Berlin, and a big hit at the Edinburgh, Adelaide and Sydney Fringe festivals Brent Thorpe returns with a one-man show for Sydney World Pride.

Inside Brent lurks more than one man, and a few women besides, for his new comedy “Daddy”.

Brent talks to Arts Wednesday about his grandmother who took him to every show on offer as a child. Think Reg Livermore and Barry Humphries.

For Daddy he has created several memorable characters to tell his story of what it is like to grow old disgracefully.   We meet Father Liberace O’Toole and Craig Faggot (Hollywood columnist) and bigoted Mosman housewife  Deirdre Flick. And of course Daddy who describes himself as “Australia’s biggest poof”.

He also praises his brilliant director Adam Cook who wrangled these diverse characters into an enjoyable night at the theatre.
