Cal Williams Jr – King Billy

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is King Billy by Cal Williams Jr.

The Adelaide based musician has been awarded ‘South Australian Song Writer of the Year’ three times, his album Morning Star was awarded ‘Best Australian Blues Album’, he has toured globally including several festival performances in the UK and has just released his third album in the shape of King Billy.

The album sees Cal once again showcase his exceptionally intricate slide bluegrass guitar skills.

Whilst the influence of New Orleans and southern state blues is obvious, Cal’s soft vocals and slight folk persuasion give King Billy a more accessible feel and gentle flow. Indeed comparisons to Jose Gonzalez and Nick Drake would not be far misplaced.

An incredibly underrated musician, Cal’s dexterous string work is second to none, with guitar solos on King Billy leaving you mesmerised. King Billy is a must listen for blues fans and guitar connoisseurs alike.

King Billy is an independent release by Cal Williams Jr. For more information go to www.calwilliamsjr.com

Stay closely tuned to Eastside as we are giving away a copy of King Billy to a listener every day this week!
