Celebrating World Pride at Bondi Pavilion

The Bondi Pavilion celebrates World Pride with a program filled with arts, comedy, film and much more

From 10 February, Waverley Council presents a diverse program of cabaret, comedy, film, art and craft from local and national LGBTQIA+ artists. Everyone is invited to come laugh, cry, sing and delight at this offering for locals, visitors, the queer community and everyone else!

The festivities start on Friday with the opening of The Air is Electric; David McDiarmid in America – a photography-exhibition. In partnership with the Australian Queer Archives, this exhibition documents McDiarmid’s travels to the gay cultural centres in America in 1977.

Then, families are invited to the Pavilion for a day of free art and crafts with Fambo Queer Arts for Kids and Families. From self-portrait for a Rainbow Wall, own pronoun badges or Pride flags and rainbow face-paintings, everyone can get creative here!

On Sunday 19 February, visitors are invited to join award-winning queer filmmaker and curator Craig Boreham for the screening of Flickerfest’s Rainbow Shorts where they can watch a collection of LGBTQIA+ stories from around the world celebrating queer identities and desires.

On Wednesday 22 February, everyone over eighteen shouldn’t miss the chance to see the Sydney premier of Live and Intimidating from camp cabaret entertainer Reuben Kaye. The festivities continue with Paul Capsis’ critically acclaimed show Dry My Tears. Fresh from a sell-out season at Sydney Festival, this intimate performance described as “unforgettable” and “heart-stopping” charts the cabaret icon’s own journey through love and loss.

The celebrations close out on Friday 3 March with Bondi’s Comedy Extravaganza. Curated by award-winning comedian, writer and producer AJ Lamarque, everyone is invited to the comedy-show.

„We’re really excited to have such talents join us at the Pav and also look forward to having our locals come down and celebrate together at this very special time.” – Waverley Council
