Chuck Close Art Show @ the MCA

This summer, the Museum of Contemporary Art will be showcasing the works of visual artist Chuck Close. Famous for his incredibly realistic portraits, Close is a pinnacle in the artistic world for his innovative techniques used to paint the human face.

When blurring the lines between a photograph and a painting, Close can be said to be the best at the medium. His techniques have made him famous for his large scale, photo based portrait paintings that slightly blur the distinction between photography and painting. His work has featured quite a few famous faces including Brad Pitt, Kate Moss, Lou Reed, Ray Lichtenstein and President Barack Obama.

Close has had over 200 solo exhibitions in more than 20 countries over his illustrious career. This summer show will be the largest collection of Chuck Close’s work in the Southern Hemisphere and is exclusive to Sydney. It will focus mainly on the artists long involvement with the varied forms and processes of printmaking. His interpretation of etching, aquatint, lithography, handmade paper, direct gravure, silkscreen, traditional Japanese woodcut and reduction linocut and so many more will be closely looked at in all the works.

The exhibition will showcase Close’s range of early work including his mezzotints and later work that include his water colour pigment prints and his new series of Jacquard tapestries.
