Then step back 200 years to the Age of Governor Macquarie when we talk to curator Elizabeth Ellis about the artistic flowering in Newcastle. It was renowned as a hell hole penal settlement, but surprisingly produced treasures of outstanding historical and artistic interest. We talk to Elizabeth About the exhibition Treasures of Newcastle from the Macquarie Era.

On Arts Thursday 4th April we’ll look at life in the goldfields, and the new exhibition at the State Library of NSW, The Greatest Wonder of the World, photographs from the Holtermann Collection, when we talk to Curator Alan Davies, himself a treasure of knowledge and information.
