A world that breathes out

A world that breathes out is an installation made of the traces of a speculative therapeutic technology. In a duet with the water that it superceded, the sonic shower sings a slow lament before it’s washed back into the earth. Come indulge in this free installation!

When: Tuesdays to Fridays, 10am to 5pm
Saturdays, 11am to 4pm
Thursday 11 April to Saturday 18 May 2019

Silent Ice Skating Festival

Strap on your skates and head to Central Park Mall because Sydney’s grooviest ice rink is about to re-open this May. You can practice your twirls and backwards gliding every day from 10am to 8pm, and from 4-8pm you can take it up a notch, listening to music pumped through your headphones by the resident DJ – if you book in for these dance-skating sessions from Monday-Wednesday, you’ll also get a $10 voucher to blow at the mall.

Where: Central Park Mall, 28 Broadway
Chippendale
Sydney
2008

When: Tuesday 7 May - Friday May 31 from 10am - 8pm

Cost: Free

Skating and glowing headphones are free, however the sessions are limited to 45 people on the ice at any one time, and each session runs for one hour (or 30 minutes for when the hordes descend at popular times). Skates are offered on a first-come first-served basis for each session.

Blue – Screening!

Half of all marine life has been lost in the last 40 years. If we don’t make drastic changes, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish.

Blue is a film about how the oceans are broken, and what can be done to fix them. Featuring passionate advocates for ocean preservation, the film tackles themes of habitat destruction, species loss and pollution. Filmed with stunning cinematography in the seas surrounding Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines and the US, Blue looks at how the very nature of the ocean is being altered.

Our ocean has been the guardian of life on earth. Now it is our turn to be guardians for the ocean. Join us for this astounding and highly informative free evening of film and chocolate tasting.

Code Club: MIT Scratch and Makey Makey for adults

Join our free 4 week coding series and gain confidence using the coding environment, MIT Scratch and build games and animations.

MIT Scratch offers a fun introduction to block coding. It encourages creative thinking, systematic reasoning and collaboration. In this series, you’ll develop a project using the Makey Makey to bring your ideas to the next level.

Makey Makey is an invention kit that turns everyday objects into touchpads. Make a banana keyboard or draw your own game controller. It’s part of our makerspace kit collection available for members to borrow, so you can continue exploring and working on your project at home.

These hands-on workshops run for 1 hour each week and are suitable for anyone over 18 years with no prior experience necessary.

Places are free, however, you must book in and attend for all sessions. The workshops have a capacity of 8, so bookings are recommended.
