Ladies Committee BIG BBQ

Out of all the events on Community Billboard, whether it be music, art exhibitions or family fun-days, when it is done for a charitable reason it is closest to us, as here at Eastside Radio we are all about the community and want to help bring the community together in ways that can help one another.

An event on this weekend that will do just that while also raising funds for a much needed cause is the Children’s Cancer Institute - Ladies’ Committee "Big BBQ".

The Ladies’ Committee was established in 1977. By mothers whose children had been diagnosed with cancer joined to meet other women in a similar situation.
They supported each other and raised funds for research and family services, through a variety of fundraising activities, including BBQ's, trivia nights, raffles, fashion parades, fairs, street stalls, entertainment book sales and afternoon teas.

Since its inception the Ladies’ Committee has raised over $700,000 for childhood cancer research, if you would like to add to that figure for much needed funds then head along for a fun day out for all the family at "The Big BBQ" there will be great food, and home baked cakes and slices.

Sydney Opera House - Our House Open Day

Some of you may be frequent visitors to the iconic Sydney Opera House to see the spectacular performances that are held in this unique building. Maybe you are a regular caller or maybe you have never entered its doors either way an event that will give you all access is this years "Our House - Open Day".

An event to give you rare access to the Opera House’s main stages, dressing rooms and behind-the-scenes areas.
You will encounter surprise delights and impromptu performances popping up along the way, this promises to be an unforgettable and unique day of exploration beneath the famous sails.
It is a day to explore the building’s captivating history as well as learn more about how the Opera House’s exciting renewal plans are embracing the next generation of artists, audiences and visitors.

If the Opera House is special to you, may it be from an artistic point of view or for its landmark stance in Sydney this is an event that will show you all of its glory.

Gingers Jam featuring Wallace Gollan

The music event on this week's Community Billboard is being held in the great jazzy venue were we held the launch night of our radiothon earlier this year. If you are looking for a night of great live music next week head along to see Wallace Gollan in Gingers.

Wallace Gollan is a multi-award winning jazz artist who hails from Wellington, New Zealand. Gollan brings her unique voice to Oxford Street, coming from a background in traditional jazz, and her own musical inflection, with a natural gravitational pull towards hip hop and soul.
Wallace’s music is an exciting combination of a mix of genres. Joined on the night by a great house band including Luke J Stephens on Trumpet/host, Novak Manojlovic on Keys, Oliver Shane-Warne Thorpe on guitar, Dityo Bramantyo on Bass and Nicholas Meredith on Drums.

Having won awards such as ‘Most Outstanding Musician’ and ‘Most Outstanding Vocalist’ at the New Zealand’s prestigious "National Youth Jazz Competition" you are sure to be in for a night of great talent in a perfect venue.
Expect sounds that others have labelled to be similar of Erykah Badu, Little Dragon or Carmen McRae.

Conscious Club

Another great event happening in Paddington to help anyone on their conscious living journey is "The Antidote" a "Concious Club" event "Let's talk about.. an Evolution".

The Concious Club is all about creating conscious community through the medium of what they refer to as ‘enlighter-tainment’. Each "Conscious Club" evening intelligently weaves together enlightening entertainment of all genres including uplifting live music, films, and community bonding activities.

At this particular event you will hear from three truly remarkable minds on the one stage, who will be speaking about their conscious journeys and how today, humanity faces our greatest challenge, and our most precious opportunity.

Speaking at the event will be Daniel Pinchbeck - author, change maker and visionary thinker, Kip Andersen - filmaker and environmentalist and Luka Lesson - award winning spoken word poet and artist.
On the day you will be joined by over 600 people meditating together, while getting creative with interactive art and you can also indulge in a vegetarian dinner.

Amber Affair

If you are looking for a reason to grab your friends and work collagues together for a few drinks, while also raising funds and awareness for a great cause then head along to the 14th annual "Amber Affair".

It is an evening to celebrate beer appreciation and mateship – all while supporting Sydney's Children’s Hospital, Randwick. "Amber Affair" offers a distinct and uniquely stylised boutique tasting event where guests can enjoy samples from over 11 store holders featuring boutique beer, cider wine and gin.

Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick cares for more than 45,800 critically ill and injured children. On average, over 100 children come through the emergency doors every day, so it is a given that as much funds as possible are needed.
At first thought a craft beer occasion might just mean a social event for friends, however with "Amber Affair" your support will help make a real difference to these young patients.

Garage Sale Trail

If you are trying to live a greener lifestyle and want to declutter your home, meet your neighbours and also making some extra cash then jump on board the "Garage Sale Trail".

The national event, now in its fifth year, will be held next Saturday and encourages households around Australia to hold garage sales on the same day.
This non-profit program promotes sustainability and is viewed as a fun way to encourage connections between neighbours and stimulate local economies.

Former Mayor of Randwick, Scott Nash, said the "Garage Sale Trail" was taking recycling to a whole new level.

The Garage Sale Trail is the ultimate 'spring clean' and the perfect opportunity for locals to connect with their community, and score a bargain. By hosting a sale you are also playing a role in promoting re-use and reducing waste to landfill and helping to make the world a better place,
host a sale and register online to be part of the day.

Cruelty Free Festival

An event for all animal lovers out there, maybe you are a vegetarian or maybe you are not, this is an event to learn more about animal cruelty and how you can live a healthier life, it is this years "Cruelty Free Festival".

Back for its 10th year the festival is designed to encourage all animal lovers - from all walks of life - to celebrate and enjoy cruelty-free lifestyle options. The event will showcase the groups giving a voice to animals, alongside the advocates, innovators and businesses creating inspiration and options for vegan and cruelty-free living.

The event will feature a whole swag of entertainers who, of course, all believe in fair treatment for all.
With previous host of "Australian Idol" and "The Bachelor" Osher Günsberg being the MC on the day bringing you lots of great activities such as, a fashion show, a speed dating gig, and cooking demonstrations if you want to go veggie but cant think what meals you could cook plus there will be art shows, kids entertainment and lots more eco-living animal loving activities for you to take part in.

Macquarie Lightstation Tour Day

If you are looking for a random way to spend the day but in one of the Sydney's oldest buildings then head along for a guided tour of the Macquarie Lightstation.

The Lightstation will be open to the public next weekend to show you how beams of light save lives at sea, it is your chance to climb the 100 steps to the top of the lighthouse for a fresh view of the harbour and the city. Macquarie lighthouse is Australia's first and longest operating navigational light. Learn about the history of this remarkable place while taking in the views from this unique viewing point.

The lighthouse was originally built in 1818, and was designed by convict architect, Francis Greenway. The stone used in the lighthouse eroded and it was replaced by the current tower in 1883.
The lighthouse is still used for its original purpose - a guiding light for sailors showing the way to the harbour entrance.

An opportunity to find out about some of Sydney's history in a building that has helped the ancestors of so many people that are here today, arrive safely.
