Sydney International Animation Festival 2011

 


Showcasing the latest highlights of world animation, this year’s festival also marks an increased focus on the ideas, craft and processes behind animated filmmaking.

This year’s program includes many expert industry proffessionals, who will hold discussions and student workshops aimed to engage the audience, student and enthusiest alike, in dialogue about animation and its practice in an open and participatory atmosphere.

This festival not only showcases feature films by UTS students, it also screens films from Supinfocom (a frech animation school), a Korean films program, and others from all over the world. These films will be in the running for the  SIXTY40 Proto-Ninja Prize & Blue Egg Audience Choice Award

When: Friday,  September 23 2011 (All day) – Monday, September 26 2011

Moving Planet Day: 350.org Australia

 
Australia to launch global 350.org Moving Planet Day with a “YES! to climate action message” at Bondi Beach

Sydney siders will be taking to the skies this Saturday to mark this year’s 350.org Moving Planet Day – a day to move beyond fossil fuel and support climate action.

A launch event at Sydney’s Bondi Beach will kick off Moving Planet Day internationally with organisers expecting more than 500 people and hundreds of kites flying the message: YES! PRICE POLLUTION! – 350.

When: Saturday, September 24, 8:00am – 12:00pm

Where: Randwick Community Centre, 27 Munda Street Randwick (turn off Bundock Street into Hendy Avenue then right into Munda Street)

Latin American Film Festival


This year host to the Latin American Film Festial include Macquarie University, the Addison Rd centre in Marrickville, the Bankstown Arts centre and the Instituto Cervantes in Chippendale. The Sydney Latin American Film Festival 100% not for profit festival showcasing Latin American film and culture and supporting community programs in Central and South America. The Festival is driven entirely by a group of dedicated volunteers and all proceeds of the Festival go to community projects in Latin America.

Swing that Jazz ! The OzCats featuring Little Pattie



FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY at RANDWICK TOWN HALL

Silent Film Festival

 

This fest may be for silent film but it is certainly nothing to be silent about. From this Saturday through to November you have the chance to view many of the titans of the golden age of cinema.

They including the three Kings of Comedy, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd; Roscoe Arbuckle; Academy Award winning silent film actress, Janet Gaynor, in another masterpiece by Academy Award winning director, Frank Borzage; Alfred Hitchcock’s restored silent masterpiece, the Lodger; the magnificent Chicago; the classic Chinese silent film, The Peach Girl, starring the tragic and beautiful Ruan Lingyu, the Garbo of Shanghai cinema. And naturally Hairbreadth Harry, Beautiful Belinda and many more.

Sydney Children’s Festival

 

The Sydney Children’s Festival coincides conveniently with the September/October Holidays of 2011 and is located at various venues across Sydney. This festivals is aimed at nurturing or discovering the creative and expressive genius within your child.

It is designed for all kids up to the age of 12 to participate in with their families. Activities include a literary festival, a choir, circus routines, clay workshops, animation lessons, chalk sessions and even a mini AFTRS course.

 

When: Monday, September 26 Saturday, October 8

Cost: Over 75% of the entire program is FREE, all tickets are classed as low cost.

Claire Martin: Slab City Exhibition

 

Slab City is a series of photographs from the Colorado Desert of South Eastern California. This exhibition depicts the lives of a community of misfits and outcasts coined by Australian photographer Claire Martin as “Slab City”,  a reference to the remaining concrete slabs from World War II.  Although these images present the unbearable heights of temperatures in summer and the desolate cold periods of winter, Martin manages to capture beauty among the devastation that is the life of a squatter.

When: Monday, September 19 – Sunday, September 25,  10:00am – 6:00pm (weekends), 12:00pm – 7:00pm (weekdays, closed Mondays)
