The Derby Lectures: Clarence Slokee
The Derby Lectures celebrate the latest exhibition Artist Colony: Drawing Sydney’s Nature.
Join Clarence Slockee, an Aboriginal man from the Mindjingbal clan of the Bundjalung tribe from the north coast of NSW. Clarence is a presenter on Gardening Australia. He will discuss the exhibition from an Aboriginal perspective.

In this Fairfield: Romeo and Juliet in the West
This contemporary performance work from Powerhouse Youth Theatre (PYT) explores the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet through the eyes of young people living in Western Sydney.
Using Shakespeare’s classic tale as a starting point, the work is performed, written and devised by high school students and the PYT Young Actors Ensemble, in collaboration with acclaimed theatre makers David Williams and Kate Worsley.
‘In This Fairfield: Romeo and Juliet in the West’ will be opening its season at the Fairfield School of Arts throughout National Youth Week, before taking it to the Australian Theatre for Young People in Walsh Bay during the April school holidays.
Taking the play into the city is an important move for PYT, as the play has a strong voice made unique by its cast. Performing it outside of Western Sydney will ensure these voices are represented on Australia’s main stages.

Wizards of Waterloo
Wizards of Waterloo (WOW) is a new after-school reading and activity program. Interested in books and having fun? Then join the Wizards of Waterloo. Activities will include a reading club, craft and science experiments, quizzes, Internet projects, online book reviews, competitions and more! We will meet fortnightly on Thursdays throughout the year.

ANZAC Day Service
The Mustard Seed Uniting Church will conduct an ANZAC Day service at the War Memorial at Union Square.
The memorial contains the names of around 750 local men who served in World War 1. The service will consist of various hymns, a reading from the Lord Mayor Clover Moore, a Catafalque party, wreath laying and a recitation of “The Ode”.
There will be a free morning tea provided afterwards by The Mustard Seed Uniting Church at Bar Tinos.

Architecture on Show: Architecture and Sustainable Housing
How can we re-think the model to design houses that allow for flexibility both financially and practically with reuse rather than disposal? Join Matt Day, director at Day Bukh Architects as he discusses Day Bukh Architects’ attempts to design pre-fabricated sustainable housing and how this relates to a society that lives in general in a house for no more than 10 years. Brass on the Grass
Bondi Brass gives its final performance in a series of FREE Concerts from the historic bandstand at Observatory Hill. Sydney Symphony’s Associate Principal Trumpet – Paul Goodchild will perform George Gershwin’s suave and romantic Our Love is Here to Stay, widely known as the main theme to the classic film, An American in Paris. Other highlights include Mozart’s intricate Bassoon Concerto performed on one of the oldest brass instruments – the Ophicleide. Music also by Holst, Vaughan Williams and Lloyd Webber.
Grab a picnic blanket, wine, cheese and a hat and sit back in one of Sydney’s iconic venues listening to a fabulous afternoon of free entertainment.
