Paper to Pupperty

An initiative of Studio ARTES The Paper to Puppetry project is a response to the Studio ARTIST interest in ‘storytelling’, enabling them to experiment with new mediums and creative mentors.

Paper to Puppetry is an exhibition by five professional artists with disability, in collaboration with puppetry company Erth, digital media storytellers Curious Works, Alison Clouston and Leigh Rigozzi.

What has evolved as a result of this collaboration is a body of work that fuses various media (paper, puppetry, video, performance and photography) in a way that is innovative and expressive.

Paper to Puppetry showcases the dynamic and engaging contribution artists with disability are making to Sydney’s artistic life and cultural conversation.

The Beatles in Australia Exhibition

The eruption of Beatlemania in Australia was more intense than anywhere in the world. For thirteen days in 1964 the nation was held in a kind of euphoria, captivated by the talent, the songs and the charm of the Fab Four on their concert tour.

This exhibition presents the sights and sounds of Beatlemania — the arrivals, the press conferences, the concerts and the screaming fans – through newsreel footage, television reports, radio coverage, magazines and press clippings.

It looks at how Australians responded to The Beatles and the tour’s lasting impact on Australian music and culture.

Rarely seen objects from museums, fans and collectors are displayed. Documents drawn from Arts Centre Melbourne’s Kenn Brodziak Collection provide a glimpse into the intense planning undertaken in the weeks and months leading up to The Beatles’ arrival.

When: Between Saturday 21 September 2013 and Sunday 16 February 2014, 10am – 5pm

Where: Powerhouse Museum Sydney, 500 Harris St, Ultimo

Cost: Adult $12, Children (4-15 years) $6, Concession $8

Andy Mammers Duo

Andy Mammers is a veritable thesaurus of descriptive talents. Mostly he’s unassuming, un-influenced and well travelled. With guitar and voice as his tools, he has roamed the South Pacific region playing and paying his way as he went. A return to Australia has seen him quickly establish a demand for his organic performance style.

Some say that he has an innate sense of guitar that is underlined by his tasteful licks and subtle, selective, and somewhat authoritative delivery. Andy’s take would simply be that he just plays what sounds right. And it is that simplicity that brings audiences in. They are warmed by his ability to change any venue into a lounge room where you become an instant friend, delighting in his ability to emerge from sensitive lyrics to an outrageous Kazoo solo (again, simply because it sounds right in the song).

When: Wednesday 27 November, 9pm – 11pm

Where: Malony’s Hotel Sydney, 81 Goulburn St Sydney 2000

Cost: Free

How to get to the event: Call 131 500 or visit www.131500.com.au
