The Japanese Film Festival 2012

Since its start in 1997 showing only three films, The Japanese Film Festival has expanded steadily, attracting a larger audience every year. Now in its 16th year The Japanese Film Festival presents the largest lineup ever. There are some amazing films waiting for you. The theme of The Japanese Film Festival this year is Totally Sweet – do not try to resist this exotic temptation!

Kings Cross Festival 2012

This month, from Thursday 22nd to Sunday 25th November, Kings Cross will be host to the inaugural Kings Cross Festival. Expect the unexpected with a brilliant display of music, community events, art, shopping and cultural events. Events include free concerts, pop-up stores, waterside picnics, window art displays, train station performances and plenty of opportunities to see Kings Cross.

The Rocks Village Bizarre

Draw back the velvet curtain and enter The Rocks Village Bizarre for a Friday night adventure into the weirdly wonderful. Meet peculiar performers, burlesque beauties and a cornucopia of curious characters. Experience a fun, quirky, spontaneous night out as The Rocks’ intimate laneways come alive. Spin some celluloid at the pedal-powered cinema, get down at the silent disco and strut along to a secret hotel room for a peekaboo, car crash, rock star afterparty piece of theatre. Plus, hone your hula hoop skills, hear the hilariously twisted tale of convict butcher George Cribb and head to The Hidden Feast for a decadent yet surreal 10-minute dinner with a yarn-spinning celebrity artist!

Waverley Public School Car Boot Sale

This Saturday 24th November, Waverley Public School will be holding a Christmas Car Boot Market. You’ll find a great selection of old and new goods, and while you do your Christmas shopping the kids can enjoy the Jumping Castle, join the Leap Frog sports action activities, get their face painted or have their hair sprayed fun colours. When you’re through with your shopping relax and have a coffee and something from the BBQ or the home-made cake stall.

Local Writers Festival 2012

Then don’t miss the Local Writers Word Festival next Saturday at Woollahara Council featuring different events taking you to another world hidden between the covers of a book. Why not meet three electric, first-time writers at the Talks? Take part in the workshop Memoir Writing – How to Begin by author Patti Miller and finally get prepared with useful tips and tricks. Or attend the Headline Talk with Robin de Crespigny (pictured) about her national bestselling book The People Smuggler.

Little Shop of Horrors – Musical by Rose Bay Secondary College

Come along to this classic production and see how a Venus Fly Trap/Avocado-like plant with teeth makes a deadly impact on the citizens of the derelict town, Skid Row, as Seymour pines for the love of the beautiful Audrey. The staff and students of Rose Bay Secondary College have been developing this production of the Little Shop of Horrors all year, and it promises to be a great show, featuring some very talented performers and spectacular puppets, specially designed and built at the school.

 Lindesay Christmas Gift Fair

If you are looking for a special gift for family members or friends this Christmas come along to the 2012 Lindesay Christmas Gift Fair at Lindesay, at Darling Point. Shoppers will discover a treasure-trove of Christmas gift ideas among the many stalls and have the chance to inspect the stately 1830s home and gardens, which are usually only open to the public one day a month. Admission to the fair is $5, with all funds raised going towards the upkeep of the magnificent National Trust property. A complimentary shuttle bus will be in operation during the Fair, running from the Edgecliff Railway Station Bus Interchange to Lindesay House and return 10am-12noon, and 1pm-4pm each day.

Bondi Creative Youth Fair

On Saturday November 24 Bondi Beach Public School plays host to the Bondi Creative Youith Fair: A free event that is run by local youth and aims to support the talents of young people. There will be food and drink stalls, live music and performance acts, and handcrafted goods including jewellery, accessories and clothing.
