Urban Ecology Strategic Action Plan
The City of Sydney’s urban forest contributes greatly to the City’s character and is integral to making Sydney a green, global and connected city. A thriving urban forest can provide cleaner air, filtered stormwater and lower city temperatures. Trees shrubs and other plants create important habitat for birds, insects and reptiles and make beautiful city streets. Streets filled with trees and landscaping can also have psychological benefits in reducing stress and providing spaces for relaxation and contact with nature. We are working to create an urban forest with greater tree canopy and more diversity to provide these proven benefits of plants and trees in a city. This Urban Forest Strategy works to provide healthy and diverse landscaping in our streets and parks and create beautiful streets and public spaces that contribute to the health and wellbeing of everyone.
