Outsiders in Australian Film Series

In the absence of an official cinematèque in Sydney, it’s a good thing the AGNSW continues to schedule fantastic programmes of free films every Wednesday and Sunday.

The latest, Outsiders in Australian Film, is a series inspired by the Australian Art Open Weekend (held on May 12-13 at the gallery). The concept is movies about marginalised people, but as always the films are selected for quality – you’re not watching out of a sense of obligation, but to be entertained.

This Wednesday and Sunday, they will screen Sweetie, a film co-written and directed by Jane Campion, well known for her Oscar winning film the Piano. The film is a uniquely Australian drama which explores family relationships, and the dysfunction that leads from the mental illness of one of the daughters, the titular sweetie.

When: 2pm & 7:15pm, Wednesday May 30th, and 2pm, Sunday June 3rd
Where: Domain Theatre, Art Gallery of NSW
How much: FREE but please arrive at the gallery a little beforehand to book your seat
