Just before the outbreak of the Second World War, Britain took in over 10,000 mostly Jewish refugee children from Europe. The rescue effort was known as Kindertransport. Separated from their families and fostered out to British homes, most of the children never saw their parents again.
Diane Samuels’ extraordinary play is about this emergency immigration and its effect over time on generations. Based on real accounts with a distinctly female perspective, centring on the experience of one child, Eva, Kindertransport tells a powerful story of survival.
It begins in 1938 when nine year old Eva is helped to pack her case by her mother Helga in Hamburg. Nearly fifty years later, Faith discovers a box of papers and photos in her mother Evelyn’s attic and wants to know the truth about who this Eva actually is.
Diane Samuels’ play traces the way memory, remembered and forgotten, deeply affects the present. As such, Kindertransport is a story that transcends time and remains particularly relevant today. Aside from its political and historical context, at its core, the play is centred on a universal human experience, the inevitable separation between a child and parent.

Down the Barrel: Indigenous Resistance is a solo exhibition of works by Elaine Syron.
Syron’s photographs capture Indigenous resistance in and around Sydney over the past four decades.
From grassroots movements to mass protests, her photographs document moments that changed history, united mobs and paved the way for future generations.
The exhibition title Down the Barrel alludes to the photographic medium and immersive style used by Syron. This title speaks to the very real dangers faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples then and now.

His autobiography tells the story of how skinny Gregory Perkins was raised a bible-thumping Catholic and beaten bloody on the streets of Brisbane for being a ‘cow-punk’. He then fled to Sydney and mutated into Tex, rogue leader of the Dums Dums, Thug and Salamander Jim. All before finding a strange kind of success, celebrity, sex symboldom and icon status as Tex Perkins, snake-hipped, honey-voiced, often bloodied frontman of lore.

Stuart Coupe has worked as a journalist, author, editor, manager, record label director, radio presenter, publicist and tour promoter. Career highlights include being the only Australian to interview Bob Dylan twice, working with The Clash, managing Paul Kelly and the Hoodoo Gurus and being awarded a Ned Kelly Lifetime Achievement award for his contributions to crime fiction. He has written, co-written or edited ten books, the most recent being Gudinski: The Godfather of Australian Rock’n’Roll.
