ARTEXPRESS 2017

ARTEXPRESS is one of the Art Gallery of NSW’s most popular annual exhibitions, showcasing outstanding student artworks created by NSW students for the 2016 Higher School Certificate Visual Arts examination. This year, the free exhibition showcases 38 outstanding complete bodies of work, drawn from the 2016 cohort of 9,004 Visual Arts students from public and private schools across the State.

Lion Dances - Sydney Chinese New Year

With plenty of drumming, flamboyance and skill, the Chinese Lion Dance teams bring Lunar New Year to Sydney’s Chinatown. An integral part of City of Sydney’s Lunar New Year Festival, the Lion Dance is a Chinese tradition stretching back over 1,000 years and has featured in our Lunar New Year Festival since it began 21 years ago. The thunder of red fire crackers helps scare away the bad fortune of the previous year to ensure a happy and prosperous Year of the Rooster.

Ben & Jerry's Openair Cinema at Bondi

Ben and Jerry's Openair Cinemas are a quintessential summer event, with music by day and movies by night lighting up the huge outdoor screen from dusk. Cinemagoers can chill out before their film with some tasty food and frosty beverages from the fully licensed bar, while relaxing to sounds from the best of the Australian music scene and sets from the most exciting emerging local DJs and musicians.

The Chinatown Night Market

The Chinatown Night Market is a multicultural community market that is very popular with the city locals and is now rapidly becoming a major tourist attraction in Sydney. As part of the Asia On Your Doorstep project during Good Food Month, Chinatown Night Markets transform Little Hay Street into 'Little Eat Street' every Friday night during October. Food stalls and lanterns along Little Eat Street beckon food lovers on a journey with tastes from Hong Kong to Hanoi, with yum cha, tepanyaki, takoyaki, sushi, Sichuan, pho and more!

Intersection - Australian Theatre for Young People

In 2017 Australian Theatre for Young People is delighted to kick start an exciting year of theatre by turning a spotlight on the hottest emerging writers and 19 of Australia’s best young actors. Directed by Artistic Director of PACT Centre for Emerging Artists, Katrina Douglas, Intersection is an intricately drawn collection of short stories playing out across the same town, creating a glorious map of the connections formed and the experiences had when aged 17.
