Outliers - Sydney Based Painters

Once again, the Outliers are presenting their outstanding landscapes for exhibition at The Shop Gallery, Glebe.

The outliers are four Sydney based artists comprising of Tony Hooke, Kristine Ballard, Melony Smirniotis and Peter Porteous. Each artist brings to the exhibition a unique interpretation of the Australian landscape. Their choice of media ranges from oils to egg tempera on canvas, board and paper. The result is a celebration of light, colour and texture.
They have been exhibiting together for the past few years at a variety of galleries and have now come to Glebe.Their subjects are broad views of the Australian bush ranging from Tony Hooke’s moody and evocative pieces painted mainly around Goulburn to the bright and complex paintings of the very talented Kristine Ballard.Melony Smirniotis uses her bold textural narrative to interpret the many facets of the landscape and Peter Porteous continues to deliver a unique view of the land in the great tradition of Australian abstract expressionism.

For ‘The Outliers’ the Australian landscape offers endless inspiration. This exhibition offers you a chance to stop, ponder and connect, and an opportunity to collect a work of inspirational contemporary art.

It will also present works such as Nude descending a staircase (no 2) 1911, which scandalised American audiences when it was exhibited at New York’s Armory Show in 1913, and Duchamp’s infamous urinal readymade, Fountain 1950 (a replica of 1917 original).

The exhibition will be shown at the Tokyo National Museum, Japan, to mark the 50th anniversary of the artist’s death, before travelling to the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul, Korea, and the Art Gallery of NSW.
