Award winning artist Elefteria Vlavianos was born in Zimbabwe of mixed Armenian and Greek heritage. Her works draw on her multicultural heritage to investigate connection to place, culture and identity.
The paintings presented in Re-Articulation build on a series of works titled Poetic Structure, which results from an ongoing investigation into how painting facilitates the visual translation of displaced Armenian cultural aesthetic into a contemporary context. The heart of this project is an attempt to make visual that which has been rendered silent.
This show is at the 541 Art space in Kent street until June 24th.

Brought to you by the Sydney Theatre Company, 'Black Is The New White' is a satirical feast and quriky romantic comedy. Written by the in demand Nakkiah Lui, she tells the story of Charlotte Gibson, a lawyer on the up. She won a landmark Native Title case, she’s making her parents proud, she could have her own TV show tomorrow. But she has other ideas. First of all, it’s Christmas. Second of all, she’s in love.
However, fiancé, Francis Smith, has the whitest name in the world and is an unemployed experimental classical composer. This is not what her family expected.

The Sydney Film Festival is back for its 64th year with the best selections from Sundance, Toronto, Berlin, Venice and Cannes, as well as some special picks. These include Europe! Focus on Women in Film; Essential Kurosawa Selected by David Stratton; Smash It Up: Celebrating 40 Years of Punk; Feminism & Film: Sydney Women Filmmakers, 1970-85; Screenability (for filmmakers with disability); and Country Focus: Canada.
Highlights include: Palm d'or winning 'The Square', 'The Workers Cup' (on working conditions of those building stadiums in Qatar) and 'We Don't Need a Map' from director Warwick Thornton.
Runs from the 7th to the 18th of June.
