Malalai Joya speaks about Afghanistan

After 11 years of war, and the US-NATO forces looking for an exit, what can Afghans expect from the talks with the Taliban? What should Australians be pushing our government to do? How can we help ordinary Afghans reconstruct their country? Afghan human rights activist and outspoken former MP, Malalai Joya, is in Sydney for this event only. Followed by Q&A chaired by Kellie Tranter.

Eastside LIVE at 505

This Thursday Surry Hills sound haven Venue 505 will be filled with a miscellany of modern and traditional musical realms including digital beats, drum and bass, early hip hop and Hindustani raga. This is the latest instalment of the monthly music event Eastside Live at 505, and this month Eastside Radio presents The Java Quartet with Morganics and Bobby Singh, with DJ Manny from Eastside’s very own Moodswing show spinning tunes throughout the night. Bring your friends along and show support for your favourite community station – we depend on the generosity of our listeners to keep us on the air!

Lunches with Bite: Sustainability Basics free workshop

As part of city of Sydney’s ‘Lunches with bite’ series of workshops, Ausgrid energy efficiency expert Paul Myor will talk about rising energy prices and what you can do to reduce your household energy use. You’ll also learn about how the City of Sydney is working with businesses and residents to become a low carbon city.

Bondi Creative Youth Fair

In partnership with Waverley and Woollahra councils and supported by the Bondi Farmers Markets, WAYS Youth Services is organising the Bondi Creative Youth Fair as part of National Youth Week 2012! Visitors can buy a range of exciting products at stalls run by 11-24-year-olds. Come along for live music acts, performing arts, handcrafted goods, fine arts, fashion, clothing, photography and food.
