CONNECTIONS 28 November 2019
This Arts Thursday, with Maisy Stapleton, explores connections between Indigenous communities and their heritage and between the landscape, travel and art.
The first guest is Art Travel Adventures principal Kerri Ainsworth who is inspired by a passion for art and travel to design creative adventures for people looking for authentic, immersive travel experiences.
Her tours connect talented artists, including Idris Murphy and Debbie McKinnon, skilled travel guides and local experts with art workshops and accommodation in historic buildings. Visitors enjoy local customs and cultural festivals, while creative tourists are immersed in inspirational landscapes and travel destinations.
Kerri’s tours take in iconic landscapes in Australia as well as international locations which include Morocco, Mexico and Italy
In the second focus interview, we speak with Marcus Hughes, Head of Indigenous Strategy and Engagement at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences and Curator of Linear, an exhibition that recently opened at the Powerhouse Museum.
Linear explores ongoing connections with Indigenous narratives and practice and Indigenous artists interpret themes of songlines, cultural heritage and lineage through contemporary works. These range from a reinterpretation of a possum skin cloak to an immersive experience which takes visitors into the nuclear testing in the South Australian desert and its impact.
We’ll also have an update on some local exhibitions from Assistant Producer Paula Towers.
