Corroboree Sydney 2014

The celebration of Australia’s Indigenous cultural heritage kicked off this week with the beginning of the Corroboree Sydney 2014 festival in Sydney Harbour on Thursday 20th of November.

The festival highlights and celebrates the cultural heritage of Indigenous Australians and brings to life all the customs that make Australia so special.

The Indigenous community has invited all Australians to experience a unique show that will expose us to the most exciting aspects of our country’s history. The whole festival will be initiated and delivered by Indigenous people to give the most authentic and exciting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experience.

Corroboree 2014 will feature hundreds of shows that include art shows, art workshops, a firelight ceremony, dance performances, talks with influential members of the Aboriginal culture, parades and movie presentations.

The festival is being supported by some of Sydney’s premier arts and cultural groups this year, with the Australian National Maritime Museum and the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority joining this year as new collaborators of the festival. Other major organizations that have helped bring this event to life include the Art Gallery of NSW, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Blackfella Films, Koori Radio 93.7FM, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA), State Library of NSW, Australian Museum, Sydney Opera House and the Royal Botanic Garden.

The festival is set to run from the 20th to the 30th of November and will be held at significant sites around Sydney Harbour.
