Curatorial+Co. Gallery curate 5 star + new music from Ensemble Offspring
There is an emerging trend in the art world with the appearance of high end art featuring in 5 star and luxury hotels. The Director of Curatorial+Co. Gallery, Sophie Vander, has curated the public spaces of the brand new QT Hotel in Newcastle.
With artworks ranging from large oil on canvas works to video and light box installations, this new approach is breathing life into the idea of what hotels can look like, and the experience that can engage the visitor.
QT is one of the leaders in this space with Nic Graham‘s innovative vision to build a collection for the hotel chain that can be moved from site to site as required. Some works are commissioned for the specific location, while others are acquired ‘off the shelf’.
Champions of new and experimental music, Ensemble Offspring, have two upcoming concerts featuring world premieres and reimagining of contemporary classics.
This Saturday (July 16) at Carriageworks sees a program celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Iannis Xenakis with world premieres and funky grooves. For this concert there is a full lineup of 14 musicians.
On a more intimate scale, percussionist and Artistic Director, Claire Edwardes, teams up with pianist, Ben Kopp at the Seymour Centre on Friday July 29. This concert is part of the Seymour Nights new music series and displays virtuosic brilliance in a playful and energetic program.
