Take From Me is Dojo Cuts’ follow up album to their 2009 debut self-titled release. Their latest offering is fully worth the wait as the Sydney band serve up an Old Skool offering of retro Soul and Funk music.

On first listening to the album you would be forgiven for mistaking it for a 60’s or 70’s Soul LP. Dojo Cuts’ sound is refreshingly classic and authentic, particularly in a time where original instrumentation in Soul and R&B bands is becoming increasingly rare. Take From Me is characterized by grooving keys, rhythms and horns all topped off with the sexy, sassy vocals of Miss Roxie Ray. Indeed the album oozes with coolness as moments of down-tempo sultriness are matched with hip grooving get down beats. This is music that you feel, music that truly speaks to you, both to your head and to your feet.

In a time when Melbourne is said to be leading the Soul revival in Australia, Dojo Cuts and Miss Roxie Ray firmly put that theory to the test, as not only is there not much better Soul coming out of Australia than Take From Me at the moment, but even globally this stands extremely high on the current ranks of stand-out Soul/Funk releases. Take From Me truly is that good.
