The ACMF is a not-for-profit organisation that provides musical instruments and programs for disadvantaged and Indigenous children and youth in schools, remote communities and juvenile justice centres across Australia. Research has proven that participation in music has a significant impact on a child’s mental health and development.

The Australian Children’s Music Foundation (ACMF) was founded in 2002 by Don Spencer with the vision to use the power of music to inspire enrich the lives of all Australian children and youth, particularly the less advantaged and Indigenous. More than 75% of public schools in Australia do not have the funds to provide a specialised music teacher, therefore, many children are unable to enjoy the many benefits of a music education.

The ACMF pride themselves in crafting programs, particularly for kids on the wrong side of advantage, which encourage self-expression and confidence as well as improving behaviours and educational outcomes. Many of the children they work with have been abused, neglected, traumatised. They hope that music will bring them joy and the chance to dare to dream of a brighter future.

Something else ACMF pride themselves on is their annual ‘Duets’ concert. This year it is being held on the 14th of October at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney. The concert is a unique night of entertainment where the best of the Australian music industry all perform together under one roof, in aid of the Foundation. There are current Australian stars and previous legends all coming together to perform for a great cause and put a smile on everyone’s face.
