Eastside is proudly launching their first CD Live at the Reservoir an album recorded in October 2009 at the newly renovated Paddington Reservoir.

East Village Jazz Festival was a free outdoor concert as part of Art & About, Sydney’s biggest public arts festival.

Four Eastside presenters performed on this beautiful sunny day including Lily Dior, The Susan Gai Dowling Quartet, Ben Fink and The Bob Bertles Quintet. Amongst each ensemble were some of Sydney’s best known and loved jazz players including amongst others Bernie McGann, Matt McMahon, Lloyd Swanton, Col Nolan, Carl Dewhurst and Cameron Undy.

The event was not only broadcast live on air but also recorded, mixed and mastered by some of Sydney’s best engineers culminating in the musical masterpiece that is “Live at the Reservoir”.

Bob Bertles QuintetA vital player in the Sydney jazz scene since the 1950s, jazz legend and bebop man Bob Bertles is still doing it fine.  “…The sound is somehow mellow and edgy at the same time, like a sharp, full bodied wine.” – John Clare, SIMA

Ben FinkBrilliant guitarist from inside Australia’s independent music scene has worked with The Whitlams, The Stiff Gins, Lior, Waiting for Guiness and more. Fink recently released his debut album and supported the Mingus Big Band at their Sydney Opera House concert.

Susan Gai Dowling Quartet Classy and hard driving “When she unleashes her full voice it stopped you in your tracks, not because of the power but because of the emotional weight” – John Shand, SMH.

Lily DiorOne of the finest chanteuse in the Sydney scene. “She can belt out a song, dramatize a lyric, swing hard and earthy, flirt, sing a tender song – Lily can tell a story.”

This is an Eastside Radio 89.7FM Fundraiser. All money raised goes towards the station that has been bringing Sydney the best in Jazz and specialist music, arts and community affairs programming for over 25 years.

Please join us once more on June 9 at The Basement as we reunite all these fabulous musicians to help launch the remarkable recording that is Live at the Reservoir.
