Get a live injection of Eastside at VIVID this weekend

Far from hibernating for winter, Sydney is more active than ever!

Congratulations are in order for the Vivid Sydney 2012 festival for a dazzling first three days.

From 6pm until midnight, the Opera House and surrounding area has been aglow with large 3D projections, artistic light sculptures, and illuminated buildings. And that’s without even mentioning the live music and Vivid Ideas Program and conferences.

The festival of light, music, and ideas – the biggest of its kind in the southern hemisphere – has exceeded even the lofty expectations generated by last year’s edition, which drew 400,000 attendances.
In union with Vivid and Places & Spaces, Eastside brings you three nights of live performances, as well as interviews and live theatre.

And if all of that still hasn’t convinced you to head down to the harbour precinct for a fantastic night out, this will surely seal the deal: Eastside’s Pop-Up Radio!

It kicks off this Thursday in truly jam-packed fashion. First up, Something Else with Julian, Maren, Lauren and Joel – featuring a Factotum Theatre Collective performance of ‘Chekhov’s Three Sisters’ and a special live set by The Rusty Spring Syncopators, comprising of Jack B. Latimer on guitar, Tim Wall on clarinet, Sam Henning on washboard, and Rueben Holt on washtub bass – a marvelous rusty, crusty jazz group.

Alphamama

Later that night is The Vinyl Frontier with Toon and special live guests: the intense, vivacious, and passionate urban jazz fusion musician Alphamama, and DJ set by funk/soul duo The Paper Plane Project.
Day two features a Sounds of Soul three hour special with Agent Double O Soul and his guests: the unbelievably talented Doug Parkinson, a man who needs no introduction, and the captivating Lily Dior.

Wrapping up on Saturday night is the relaunch of Unknown Pleasures at their new time of 5.30pm – featuring the folky stylings of Fanny Lumsden, the hard rock sounds of The Art, and the eclectic Roboter Haus.

It’s all taking place in the intimate Cockatoo Calling, a pop-up venue at 47 George St, The Rocks.

So come on down from Thursday 31 May to Saturday 2 June, between 6 and 8pm. Admission is free!
