Ethio Jazz and Spontaneous Invention
The Matt Ottignon Quartet and Showa 44 will perform at the seventh of November at the Venue 505. The doors open at 7.30pm and the bands will enter the stage at 8.30pm.
After touring to Ethiopia as a member of the band “Dereb the Ambassador”, Matt Ottignon got inspired by its hypnotic and trance like rhythms. Showa 44, founded in 2001, has recently the reputation as one of Australia’s foremost creative ensembles. It has released two CD’s of improvised duets, boosting its popularity via national and international festivals. Featuring Carl Dewhurst and Simon Barker, Showa 44 utilise tuned metallic resonances, rhythmic densities and spontaneous invention via electric guitar and percussion to manifest compelling and evocative soundscapes.
