Orange Challenge Cycling Event

A new cycling event, Orange Challenge, is set to showcase the best of the Central West region to cycling enthusiasts from around Australia.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres announced the event has been secured for Orange until 2018 by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.

“Orange Challenge is open to all cyclists looking to test their skills and involves a one-day 170km ride through the region, highlighting the beauty and diversity of the surrounding towns and giving visitors and their families the opportunity to spend time exploring the area,” Mr Ayres said.

“The NSW Government has worked with Bicycle Network to develop and secure this event for Regional NSW. Beginning in March 2016 the event is expected to attract more than 3,000 international and domestic visitors to the area over three years, with an estimated visitor spend of more than $1.5 million in the same period.”

Member for Orange Andrew Gee said Orange Challenge promises to showcase the best of the region and provide a great boost to the local visitor economy.

“Cycling is a great way to get out and about in Regional NSW, and this event will take participants on a route through Orange, Cudal, Canowindra and Mandurama, taking in some of the stunning scenery surrounding Mount Canobolas and I look forward to welcoming visitors to Orange Challenge next year,” Mr Gee said.

“Bicycle Network is working with Orange City Council and Taste Orange to create extension events that highlight the great food and wine products on offer in our region. These events will give Orange Challenge participants and their families a reason to extend their stay and explore more of Orange and its surrounding areas.”
