Festival for the Kimberley
Today we were chatting with Kane Johnson from the Wilderness Society Inc. and Bernie Davies from Broadcastz.net about the Festival for the Kimberley taking place this Friday. March 8 at Martin Place. The event runs from 7am-7pm and features live music, dancers, speakers, camels, a life-size whale puppet, film previews, organic food, beer and wine from Western Australia and more! What’s not to love?
And even more exciting, the whole event will be broadcast live by you, the public, not only to Broome where the blockades are happening but to the rest of the world. Using solar backpacks to keep phones alive for the entire day, citizen journalists will use the Broadcastz app to record everything they see and hear and share it with users around the world to get the message heard. Get there early to get involved in this great event. You can make a difference!
A bit of background:
The Western Australian government has given to go-ahead to build the world’s largest factory in the middle of the Kimberley which will pump 3 giglitres of garbage into an offshore whale nursery which is home to over 22.5 thousand humpback whales. More environmentally friendly methods have already been developed and have been shown to save the government $9 million but they have not changed their minds.
For more information check out the Festival for Kimberley website and see you at Martin Place on Friday!
