An Accidental Soldier, ABC telemovie directed by Rachel Ward, screens Sunday 15 September at 8:30pm.
The story? On the Western Front, in WWI, an Australian baker on the run finds unexpected love with a grieving French farmwife who tries to protect him from the war that has shattered both their lives.
Cast? The film features an all-star cast including French actress Marie Bunel, Dan Spielman (Offspring, Darwin’s Brave New World), Bryan Brown (The Good Wife, Breaker Morant) and Julia Zemiro (Lowdown, Conspiracy 365). Based on the book Silent Parts, written by John Charalambous.
The Director ? Rachel Ward is probably most well known for her portrayal of Meggie Cleary in one of the most successful mini-series of all time, The Thorn Birds. Today Rachel channels her experience and knowledge of filmmaking into writing and directing. An Accidental Soldier was filmed in Western Australia, and produced by Goalpost Pictures and Taylor Media.
The location? Who says Australia never produces anything outside of suburban dramas? This wonderful film was filmed in Western Australia, with a cast of French and Australian actors.
