‘FRIDAY’, NY JACK QUARTET, Sydney Fringe Festival, Snarski vs Snarski and ‘Jackson! Le diner est prêt!’ with Eastside’s Arts Margaux Dombkins
Sex, secrets and scandals are the topics of conversation with my first guests: Director, Julie Baz and David Jeffrey who chat about the new razor-sharp Australian political satire, FRIDAY by Daniela Giorgi. Sizzling with sex, secrets and scandals, FRIDAY is a tale of democracy in the land of the long weekend.
Set in the legislature of a fictitious modern democracy, FRIDAY highlights democracy’s precarious and precious nature, scrutinising the personal and political, and the paper-thin division between the two, delving into tensions of public responsibility versus private desires.
As the nation gears up for Australia’s upcoming federal election, and with the recent series of tumultuous political events in Australia, Daniela Giorgi’s funny and at times heartbreaking examination of the challenges and necessity of political engagement is both timely and very relevant.
This production of the Sydney Independent Theatre Company (SITCO) – the new resident company at the Old Fitzroy Theatre, features Gertraud Ingeborg, David Ritchie, Adrian Barnes and Peter Hayes and performers: Tim Cole, Jamie Collette, Sinead Curry, Justine Kacir, Emmanuel Nicolaou, Amara Pické, Cherilyn Price, Sarah Robinson and Gemma Scoble.

My next guest: Rob Snarski chats about the renowed Snarski vs Snarski showdown performances with his brother Mark. Quickly becoming something of an annual event, the showdown puts brother to brother, face to face with their musical past, present and future! The brothers test their musical memory banks as they delve into the back catalogue of Chad’s Tree, Jackson Code and Blackeyed Susans ‘classics’ along with new material – swapping and re-interpreting each other’s songs and carrying on like family do.
Mark and Rob Snarski formed the darkly literate Chad’s Tree in the early 1980s (their first band) before moving on to separate musical projects. Mark formed the Jackson Code and younger brother Rob formed The Blackeyed Susans along with members of The Triffids and other luminaries. Rarely in the same country, let alone on the same stage, the Snarski brothers will go head to head in their one only Sydney performance at The Vanguard.
