from true blue seafood to dancing your soul
this Monday Drive we freewheeled from Dancing Freedom to Fish labelling, throwing in a quick review of Mr Holmes by our resident cineaste, Riley Lavelle Long. This multi-layered, rather delightful film stars Sir Ian McKellen as a 93 year old Sherlock Holmes, struggling with old age as he determines to solve his last case. Riley gave it the high five. After noting that Hillary Clinton has just announced her commitment to solar and wind, we had a chat with energy heavyweight and Grattan Institute Program director Tony Wood about the state of Australia’s transition to a clean energy economy (it’s happening faster than the political rhetoric, which is so yesterday!). Then we moved on to freeing your body and soul. Caitlin Wood was in the studio to explain why leaving your inhibitions at the door, exploring the floor, and working your way through the elements like earth wind and fire, is a great way to dance yourself to freedom. As for the issue of labelling to show clearly where your fish feast comes from, Nathaniel Pelle from Greenpeace told us that 72% of the seafood Australians eat is imported – from countries where slave labour is used by the fishing industry, and unsustainable practices such as live shark finning are common. But it is possible to make ethical choices, by frequenting markets, restaurants and vendors who reveal their sources. Made us think twice about cheap prawn laksas and fish fingers – probably not true blue!
