Funk/soul icon Fred Wesley and The New JBs in Sydney on Wednesday 27th March
“We speak of love and happiness: for me, happiness is Fred Wesley playing his horn.” James Brown.
Lovers of funk: this one’s for you. The legendary Fred Wesley and his band The New JBs are returning to Sydney. Wesley is without question one of the most important musicians in funk and soul music.
A pivotal member of James Brown’s band – of which he was the leader and director – Wesely has also proven a force in jazz.
Wesley’s 35-year career includes playing with and arranging for a wide variety of artists such as Ray Charles, Lionel Hampton, Randy Crawford, The SOS Band, Cameo, Van Morrison and De La Soul, the Count Basie Orchestra, Parliament-Funkadelic and Bootsy’s Rubber Band, just to name a few. He’s one of the most sampled musicians in the world.
This is your chance to see a living legend in what will be a fun, groove-filled night.
Listen in next’s Voices with Lily Dior (2-4pm Tues) for an interview LIVE on Eastside!
