Gaffa Gallery presents ‘Paramnesia’ by Keroshin Govender
Coming up at the end of September, Gaffa Gallery will be presenting a new exhibition by talented artist Keroshin Govender entitled Paramnesia. This exhibition is one to challenge our perceptions of the people and places featuring in the paintings just as the artist has also strived to subtly distort the subjects to interpret his views of the subject matter.
There is incredible meaning behind the name of the exhibition. Paramnesia is defined as ‘a condition or phenomenon involving distorted meaning or confusions of fact and fantasy, such as confabulation or deju vu.’ You want to feel like you’ve seen the subjects before and want to know where they’re going.
Keroshin Govender was born in South Africa, but for the last 10 years he has resided in Sydney. He is a well educated man with a Bachelor of Digital Media from the College of Fine Arts at the University of NSW. His background in adversing has really shaped his work to have a strong commercial design feel with contrasting colours and clearly defined hard edges.
Keroshin bares a lot of his inspiration from South Africa art and landscapes, marine life, architecture and surrealism. His current colour scheme reflects on vibrant Ndebele motifs. Keroshin also draws strong architectural theme with two portraits of famous architects Zaha Hadid and ‘Le Corbusier’.
The employment of textures and colours from Keroshin’s two home countries and the cultures that come from these countries feature heavily in the show, pulling emphasis to the fact that he is incredibly proud of where he is from.
