Girls’ Own Pictures: Reaching out for community support

If you regularly tune in to Eastside’s Tuesday Drive program chances are you would recognise Louise Wadely from the Lesbian Open House segment. Louise is currently working on a project she is equally as passionate about – filmmaking.

A previous attendee of the National Film and Television School in the UK, Louise is devoted to producing original stories with distinctive and exciting female lead roles; so much that she set up Girls’ Own Pictures with Jay Rutovitz and Sophie Clausen.

The Trouble with e is Louise’s first feature film. It is one woman’s story of self-discovery amid the obstacles commonly faced by gays and lesbians in contemporary society. Louise says: “I want to tell stories on film because you can transport your audience to another world so completely.”

Unfortunately, producing a feature film that looks good as well as having a great cast and a fantastic script requires significant financial support and in order to bring this vision to a reality, Girls’ Own Pictures is seeking support through a Pozible campaign aimed at raising necessary funds to finance the film.

So how does it work? Pozible is a crowd funding community-building tool for creative projects. Anyone with an idea or project can start campaigning. You set a target and people who support you can pledge a donation to help you achieve your target; in return you offer rewards to match the level of the funding pledged. However, you must reach your target by the approved time to receive the funding.

You can pledge as little or as much as you like. But remember Girls’ Own Pictures need to reach their target to make this project come to life.
